Heather's Fishies
Please make sure that you don't add any embelishments that don't belong in a baby's mouth (i.e. no buttons, crystals, or beads). Everyone should use a blue background, but your fish can be any bright, fun color (suitable for a boy).Here is a picture of the pattern she passed out.
**UPDATE** If you cut 3.5 inch squares to sew together into half-square triangles (HST), you'll have a little extra room for squaring and won't need to worry about them ending up too small. Each of these HST units should then be squared to 2.5 inches.
The larger square that is the main body of the fish should be cut to 4.5 inches. Notice that there are two different fish patterns given; please do one of each fish.
Also, you will need to add an eye and/or mouth. Please make sure you applique or embroider these on - no buttons that could be swallowed by the baby!
**UPDATE** Make sure your eye and mouth are at least 1/4" from the edges, so that they don't get swallowed up in the seam allowance.
Jewelia's Chickens
Jewelia has asked us each to make her One 12-inch finished (12.5 inches squared) chicken block.
Any chicken - use your imagination! It can be pieced, paper-pieced, applique, or whatever else strikes your fancy. There are a lot of free chicken patterns on the web; just Google "chicken quilt block" and you'll see a bunch. If you get stuck, email Jewelia for ideas.
Jewelia likes more country/rustic colors. So take a color like red or yellow, rub a little dirt in it, and there you go! Here are a few images of quilts that she's done, along with an idea for a chicken block:
