Reversible Table Runner and Scrap Swap

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 24 at 9:30 a.m. at Sam's house. Sam's mom, Laura, is in town and will be showing us how to make a reversible table runner.

This is a perfect project for using up your scrap fabric and scrap batting. For anyone who is interested, we'll also be doing a "Scrap Swap". Bring along any scrap fabrics you don't mind sharing, and for those of us who want to make a scrappy table runner, we can draw from the pile.

This project is also a fun way to add to your holiday decorations, if you're not in a scrappy mood. You could do Easter on one side, and 4th of July on the other - or Halloween and Thanksgiving - or even St. Patrick's Day and Christmas. Your imagination is the limit! For myself, I'm going to go with Holiday on one side, scrappy on the other.

Whether you want to do Scraps or Holidays, both, or neither, here are the fabric requirements.

Side A:
1/3 yard for large triangles. (You could use all one fabric or more than one; each square will be cut to 11 1/2 inches, for a total of three squares)
1/2 yard assorted fabrics. (These will be cut into about 1 1/2 inch strips - this width can be flexible)

Side B:
1/4 yard for small triangles (You could use more than one fabric. Each square is cut to 8 1/2 inches, for a total of 4 squares)
1/2 yard assorted fabrics (These will be cut to about 1 1/2 inch strips - this width can be flexible)

Batting:
3/4 yard Warm and Natural or Thermolam batting (If you want to use scraps, you will need 1 square cut 12 1/2 inches; 4 "half-square" triangles cut from two 12 1/2 inch squares; and 8 "quarter square" triangles cut from two 12 1/2 inch squares. Call Sam if this is confusing!)

Binding:
1/4 yard to coordinate with both Sides A and B.

So there you have it. If this seems confusing, it's not once you get started. The awesome thing about this pattern is that you quilt as you go, so by the time you're done adding all of your fabrics, the runner is quilted and ready for binding.
